Tegra Medical Adds Injection & Insert Molding Capabilities
FRANKLIN, MA--Tegra Medical is pleased to announce that it is adding injection and insert molding capabilities to better service its customers. Many of the metal components produced by Tegra Medical are subsequently assembled with plastic components. To reduce lead time and cost, Tegra Medical now provides injection and insert molding in its Dartmouth, MA facility. Tegra purchased a 44-ton Arburg ALLROUNDER molding machine that is ideally suited for the types of minimally invasive components and assemblies and specialty needles produced for its growing customer base. This versatile machine will operate in a horizontal or vertical fashion to produce injection molded components, insert mold on to a metal component/assembly and overmold on plastic components. Tegra works with a wide variety of medical grade thermoplastics and has internal tool-making capabilities as well as an excellent network of local tool makers. “We’re excited about being able to offer our customers this capability as it will simplify their supply chain. It is a natural extension of our current capabilities and something we’ve had repeated requests for” said Tom Burns, V.P. Business Development.
“Since purchasing American Medical Instruments and the 57,000 sq. ft. Dartmouth facility in late 2007, we’ve made a number of improvements to the site. The timing is perfect to add this capability to the precision grinding, finishing operations and automated assembly already in place” according to Bob Roche, President & COO. “In addition to the new equipment, we have added additional process and quality engineering resources to support the business.” Over 1,500 sq. ft. of white space has been built out to house the molding operation with ample room to add additional molding equipment as needed.
