Tegra Medical Careers - Automation Specialist

Tegra Medical is a rapidly growing company in the contract medical device manufacturing sector located in Hernando, Mississippi; Franklin & Dartmouth, MA and San Jose, Costa Rica. Due to our continued rapid growth and expansion, we are seeking an experienced, self-directed and customer driven Automation Specialist to be a part of our Advanced Technologies Group located in Franklin, MA. You will design, install, program, and troubleshoot manufacturing systems on machinery or processes that require automated controls as well as determine, evaluate, design, manufacture, implement and monitor Automation systems for the manufacture of medical device products.

Responsibilities

  • Be the lead technical resource and process automation engineer for new and existing products and capital products including the implementation of advanced technology, the definition of incremental process improvements and the development of new solutions to support Tegra’s customer requirements.
  • Research available technologies with the objective of improving product quality, reducing cost and/or increasing capacity.
  • Lead the effort to develop and implement appropriate process control and automation strategies for our production and manufacturing equipment.
  • Responsible for new project execution according to agreed cost, quality, product performance and timetable requirements.
  • Set aggressive project goals and plans and track and drive implementation to achieve those goals.
  • Develop detailed project schedules and budgets.
  • Develop new product prototypes to validate product designs that meet performance requirements, quality and cost goals.
  • Prepare periodic status reports for management.
  • Develop sensible plans to evaluate, implement and then audit the efficacy of completed technology improvement projects.
  • Participate in vendor negotiations using an understanding and appreciation of financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications.
  • Coach and mentor Tegra Team members in the effective use of automation, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least five (5) years experience in an applicable Engineering position is required. Experience in medical devices and Project Management is a plus. Must have experience in hands on engineering positions involving machine automation and retro-fitting. Experience configuring, programming and trouble-shooting automation and industrial control products such as PLCs, operator interface panels, variable frequency drives and motors, sensors, AC drives/motors, enclosures, process controllers, pneumatics, relays, and connections systems is a must. Should be electromechanically inclined and have experience in automating equipment and controls to increase productivity of the equipment.

  • The know how to develop protocols and qualifications for automation systems.
  • The ability to recommend and implement automation upgrades.
  • Experience in the design and manufacture of components and tooling.
  • The ability to design robust processes for Tegra development and production.
  • A successful track record of training personnel in the operation of manufacturing equipment.
  • The ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Experience with Solid Works, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, JobBoss and other relevant software systems.
  • Strong Blue Print reading skills.
  • Being able to run multiple projects and exhibit strong accountability to achieve scheduled milestones and deliverables.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality systems.
  • Strong process orientation, analytical and planning ability as well as exceptional problem solving, project management and facilitation skills.
